Report of the La Baule Trophy, 4th and 5th May 2013
The Yacht Club
of La Baule was the logistical support of the race, together with
our friend Gregory BOYER GIBAUD, official of the disable sailors Association
in the French League for the French region Pays de la Loire, and with
the association "France 2.4 mR" under the presidency of our
friend Damien SEGUIN. This race was organized in Open (able and disable
sailors). We want to thank the Yacht
Club of La Baule for its excellent organization and support. Thanks to
the dedication of its members, the Club could welcome 2 fleets of sport
plastic-hulled yacht, the "2.4 mR" and the "MINIJI"
fleets, eleven of which were sailing a special selective race for the
League. These two fleets together displayed a magnificent sight for the
many spectators strolling along the embankment of this 7 km long beach. Six boats composed the 2.4 fleet. Only our friend Gilbert SIFRE, recently slightly injured, and Mathieu CARPIER, could not come. The French disable sailing team coming from the ENVSN , composed of Damien Seguin, Kevin Cantin and Daniel Gachignard, was complete. The group was completed by our old friend Eric Drye, formerly a Miniji sailor, now a 2.4 sailor, and myself, J.M Vennin, with our friend Philippe Blandin of the Yacht Club of the Ile de France region. The competition took place in the bay of La Baule, with a magnificent sea and a 3 to 6 knot winds coming from the West and South-West. It was really a great event for the 2.4 mR fleet. Four races on the Saturday and three races on the Sunday could take place, depending on the tide which threatened the boats to get stranded in the Channel or the entrance of the port. On the Saturday, very naturally,
Damien Seguin, dominated the three races, and was followed by Kevin Cantin
and Eric Drye This was the opportunity for the French 2.4mR NCA to hold its Annual General Meeting, the record of which will be soon available on the website of our association. During the prize-giving, Mr
François -Xavier BALEY president of the La Baule Yacht-Club, broke
the news that the club was including in its organization a 2.4 mR team
directed by Damien Seguin, which was an excellent news for our activity.
Having a great number of sailors is important for a fleet, t is also the
result of the commitment of Gilbert Sifre who devoted himself to resuscitate
the French 2.4mR fleet. This event in La Baule was really a success with
the opportunity of the very first Open race in France, the only French
competition being up to these days the French Olympic Week held in Hyères,
which was restricted to desable sailors only . Sincerely yours , JM VENNIN
/ FRA 16 General Secretary
